The brothers Ernest (1877-1937) & Charles Schneider (1881-1953) both initially worked at Daum Frères & Cie, Verreries de Nancy, with Ernest being responsible for the sales department and Charles working as a freelance modeler and designer for the factory alongside his studies at the École des Baux Arts in Nancy and later in Paris. In 1913, the brothers, together with the architect Wolf, founded their own glass factory in Epinay-sur-Seine and traded under the name 'Schneider Fréres & Wolf'. Due to the war, the company had to close again in 1914, but the brothers continued to run it after the war from 1918 under the name 'Verreries Schneider'.
