This exquisite antique porcelain Pickard Scenic Vellum vase features a hand-painted design of palms trees in a landscape probably inspired by the notoriety of the Everglades, which would soon be turned into a National Park during this era. The stunning piece is skillfully painted using a muted pastel pallet of green, yellow, lilac and pink on a satin "vellum" finish resembling fine parchment. The soft colors are blended into a beautiful Florida sunset in the Everglades with reflections in the water of palms in the distance. The painting style on this piece shows an influence of Post-Impressionism works by Seurat, Pissaro and VanGogh. Pickard Scenic Vellum was a line launched by Pickard in the early 1910's and continued to be produced well into the 1930's in their Chicago factory. Edward Challinor was one of the most famous of the Pickard artists and he has signed the vase on the bottom, "E Challinor", along with the title of the piece "Palms". The vase also has a circular black printed Pickard stamp over gold leaf. The mouth and rim around the base are 24 carat gold and are still bright. The vase is in excellent condition, no chips, cracks or repairs. The impressive column shaped vase stands 12 inches high x 3.5 inches wide, making a stunning display in any home or office. A rare find for advanced Pickard collectors.
